Community Impact
Strengthening Communities, Empowering Louisiana
Pelican's commitment to members doesn't stop at the branch door. As a not-for-profit credit union, we invest in Louisiana communities through advocacy, youth programs, scholarships, and active local involvement.

Advocacy for Louisiana Residents
We advocate for our members by turning their voices into action at the state and national level.
Pelican’s Board and team members attend state and national conferences to advocate for credit union members with Louisiana legislators on key issues like insurance affordability and tax exemption.
We also encourage members to stay engaged with their elected officials through the Geaux Vote app or the Louisiana Secretary of State website.
Why Credit Unions Are Tax Exempt
Credit unions are not-for-profit and member-owned — similar in tax status to non-profit organizations. Pelican doesn't exist to profit from its members. Any earnings are returned to members through better rates, lower fees, and improved services.
Because of Pelican's dedication to serving all income levels, we hold both a Low-Income Designation (LID) and a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certification. These designations reflect a commitment to serving members who are often overlooked by traditional banks.
